Jesus goes to the home of Peter and Andrew with James and John. The first thing he does is cure the mother-in-law of Peter. Her fever left her and she waited on them. In the evening, the people began to bring all those who were ill or possessed by demons. He cured many who were ill and drove out demons. Then, today's Gospel tells us: "Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed." However, Simon Peter and those who were with him pursued him. When they find Jesus, they tell him that everybody is looking for him. Then Jesus says: "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come."
Jesus prayed and discerned what he was to do. He knows what he is to do and he gradually forms his apostles to be able to carry on his mission. He invites them to go with him. He is still inviting others to help him in this mission of proclaiming the good news. We have been called and we have the grace to do whatever He asks of us. Let us be brave and even bold as we preach by our very lives.
