"What we repeatedly think shapes our world. Out of compassion, substitute healthy thought for unhealthy ones." Jack Kornfield, The Wise Heart, quoted by Joyce Rupp.
Joyce says that she opened a retreat on compassion by handing each participant four seeds. She reminded them that these inert seeds held the potential for an abundant harvest, if carefully tended. Then she spoke of the seeds as symbols of the four main spiritual qualities necessary for compassion's growth: nonjudgment, nonviolence, forgiveness and mindfulness.
I guess I just think I need to get a head start on this book by sharing these thoughts. It does give us much for reflection!
