Apostolic Courage

Today is the 62nd anniversary of my final profession in the Society of the Sacred Heart. The name given to our group was "Apostolic Courage" and, although most of us have died, I still have three very active Sisters in the United States living in amazing ways this apostolic courage.

Now here is something from the day in the Guided Imagery Retreat where the daily morning paper was on "Compassion for Suffering" - It is the shortest of the quotes and is from Madeleine L'Engle:

"It is when things go wrong, when good things do not happen, when our prayers seem to have been lost, then God is most present. We do not need the sheltering wings when things go smoothly. We are closest to God in the darkness, stumbling along blindly."

Actually, God is always with us; maybe we just recognize God easily when we feel His presence, but He is just as present when we are feeling He is hiding. He is holding us close.
