The First Friday devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was inspired by the visions that St. Margaret Mary had, but it was promoted by the Jesuits and then by the entire Catholic Church. First Friday became a special day for Catholics and still is for many.
The Society of the Sacred Heart has also promoted this devotion. I was praying over the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart that we say after Mass on the First Friday of every month. I rather absent-mindedly left the Chapel with a copy and then thought that perhaps I am to share what we say every month with you.
Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Lord Jesus Christ, You promised to draw all things to Yourself
when you were lifted up from the earth.
This promise began to be fulfilled on the cross and has continued down the ages
revealing the power of Your Sacred Heart in drawing people to You by making Your love known.
God of Love, You know that our earnest wish is to glorify the Heart of your Son,
to love and to teach others to love that Heart so full of love and so little loved in return.
Mary, we ask you to present to your divine Son, this solemn offering and consecration of ourselves to the glorification of His Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we pray that You pour out your Spirit on all assembled here and all members of this little Society. Amen.
