Most of us would say that we want to prefer Jesus to all else in our lives; we might also say that it is not easy in the midst of our daily lives. Luke tells us in this Sunday's Gospel that Jesus said we should "hate father, mother, brothers and sisters" but this does not seem to be what Jesus would say - Jesus taught us that we must love one another; we must love others as he has loved us. What then is the Gospel trying to tell us? I think the strong language is telling us that we must prefer God to all relationships, to all possessions, and be ready to put God at the center of our lives and give God priority over all else. This Sunday, we are called to think of how we are living the preference of God first - if we are to follow Jesus, we need to examine how we might be tempted to not give God and God's reign preference in our lives.
Today is a good day to do that as it is a day the Holy Father has asked us for prayer and fasting for peace. I also want to watch the college football game as Miami is playing Florida and the Hurricanes and Gators have great rivalry. I will be watching but maybe spend the rest of the day after the noon game in prayer.
I am sorry I was not able to write yesterday but do try to keep this blog daily.
