Memorial Day

We have invited the Religious of the Sacred Heat in the area for a Memorial Day Picnic. I think this is a tradition and we look forward to seeing our RSCJ Sisters from at least several of the communities in the area.

I think that the war is coloring all we do - our prayer for peace is intense. We need to continue to pray for those suffering from the war but also for the many refugees who need to find new homes. I pray for those at our border.

Here is a prayer for Memorial Day found on page 12 of Give Us This Day and taken from the Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers:

"God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride.

Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.

Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord." Amen.
